Beautiful shots. Where were they taken?

Colleen: This is Michigan City, Indiana, the southern shore of Lake Michigan. It was so cold that day....

The ice floats shot is amazing, gives me that childish desire to reach out and taste it! The second seagull somehow looks really happy - talk about anthropomorphising!! - reminds me of Jonathan Livingstone Seagull.

it looks from icy cold, but absolutely beautiful. Light and lines to speak to me very much and give the Gulls the interspersed throughout a complete life. Perfect, I love it!

so serene and beautiful, especially the floating ice, it makes me dream of some Hokusai frozen waves...
i am envious you have such wonderful landscapes right at your door :-)

Oh wow, what a beautiful composition here James, I especially like the photos of the posts and of the snow at sea. Great!

Sorlil: It would taste pretty cold, I’m afraid. Your tongue would freeze to it, lol. Jonathan Livingstone Seagull … wow, I haven’t thought of that for years

Lady Jo: Le quiétude rôde dans l’eau comme un navire dans les rêves … c’est pourquoi on a besoin de la mer … Belle journée. Bises

Veredit: Yes, it was freezing that day. My hands were stiff with cold by the time I had these shots …. A very important skill would be learning to operate the camera while wearing gloves, but I can’t manage that “Light and lines” -- something about the shore, the horizon, makes one thing geometrically, doesn’t it?

Roxana: Bună seara. I like Hokusai very much :-) Beautiful landscapes, yes (though there are also some less than beautiful scenes ... I'm saving those for another day :-) ... but the cost of these landscapes is that it is forty-five minutes to a book store, an hour and a half to a museum....

Tricia: Thanks for coming by. I enjoyed your blog, too, and I will be back.

Lissa: Thank you. That's a great user pic, by the way. Hopper is one of my favorities.

Pacey: Thank you. You know, I'm still thinking about those fish :-)

Yes, exactly my dear James, the geometric lines, they are masterfully incorporated by you. Do you know the painter Franz Marc? He has worked on a fantastic way with this element, it would be interesting to implement it in such photographs. Your pictures remind me of him.

James Owens said...

Isabella: I had not considered any connection to Franz Marc, but I certainly do like painters of that time ... I will have to go and look at his work again. Thank you for the inspiration to do that ;-)

I like the way these move toward a journey ...

James Owens said...

Susan: Actually, I have been feeling in the mood for a journey, here lately. Maybe that is reflected in these pictures ... but it is always like that when one stares into the waves, maybe :-)

Coldness comes through here. Nobody else dared to come there? They missed some fine views.

James Owens said...

Chrome3d: Yes, I had the entire beach all to myself ... it was like being lost in the arctic....

Wow! I really like lighthouse and icy water. These shots are great.
