light whispers through the skin of stones

one stone on another stone
a little click when you tap them together

stillness
there is nothing else

longing shivers in the blood

What perfect harmony of title, picture and poem! I love that the physicality of the stones are able to express such emotion.

Fossilised moments in history, only shared in clicks and scrapes between stones. I like it.

Your photographs and writing are beautiful. I've tried my hand at poetry - it's not anything I would want to share with the world (lucky world!)
Thank you for sharing!

Stones are a sort of memory, being there before and after us. Their beautiful silence and immobility can be ignored or brought to light by the poet. They make us think about wisdom.

Lady Jo: Dans l’intérieur des pierres … de la lumière, des étoiles, des échos….

Sorlil: Thank you. I’ve never quite been able to believe in the physicality of objects. I’m certain these stones might at any time turn to flame, or into silken lengths of birdsong….

Susan: Thank you. You find this light cold? I like the warmth of stones carried in a pocket, close to the skin, as talismans.

Martin: That’s history / anthropology,, isn’t it? All technology is just an elaborate game of scraping stones together….

Lamb: Welcome to my blog! You should share some poetry anyway … I’m sure the world would be none the worse for it J

Anne: “Stones are a sort of memory” -- a beautiful thought, and very true, I think. Thank you.

Roxana: Yes :-)

I understand all that is contained in this "oh"....

At first, I thought these were loaves of bread. Yes, delicious breads. And your post and photo made me realize that in life many things have appearances that suggest one thing but can only be confirmed if they are actually experienced and and not just visually observed. And this is a good reminder. Have a pleasant week, James!

Renee: I’ve been trying to turn these stones into bread, but it just isn’t working for me, for some reason.... Yes, the way things appear and the way we experience them can be scarily different. I am haunted by my inability to communicate experience -- only words and pictures that take the place of experience, markers that hold the place....
