Those ice blocks are amazing! From a British perspective it seems so odd to think of all that water as land-locked...or maybe it's just me!

James said...

I bet it's really cold. It looks like an ocean. Pardon the pun but cool shots.

Ah - at last... melting ice and open water!

Amazing shots...this looks pretty much exactly like my favorite place at the sea for taking photos! "My" ice is also covered with soil this year due to all storms we had. We don´t normally have any ice here.
Vielen Dank für Deinen lieben Kommentar auf meinem Blog! Ich bin sehr beeindruckt...*smile*

Very nice, James. Such a clean feel to these shots.

Appropriately, your word verification is winpic

Spring makes its own statement, so loud and clear that the gardener seems to be only one of the instruments, not the composer.....

Still looks cold to me. :) Beautiful place to take pics though.

simply beautiful... such otherworldly silence. yet thinking about the forces at work underneath, those elementary spirits of earth and water, wind, if i may speak Goethe's language (Elementargeister) - then another vision opens before us...

It is so great that I think of the ocean if you didn't tell us this is a lake! These photos are beautiful and more: we can imagine the water whispering and feel like if we were just near. Thank you very much for these peaceful pictures.

No matter how spring comes next in the cold winter. It is mysterious.

Thank you for showing beautiful brightness of the spring.

From the Far East.
Best regards.

Susan: I always think of the beach as this sense of movement. But then it is strange to be there in the deep winter, when there is ice all the way to the horizon, no waves, silence, even the gulls are gone....

Sorlil: It’s really like being at the seashore. You can walk for an hour, imagining yourself one of those 19th century Arctic explorers trapped all winter by the ice… Does the firth ever freeze over? I seem to remember some talk in The Winter Guest (do you know that lovely film?) about how unusual it is for the sea around Scotland to freeze --- but I have no idea if that is accurate....

James: You’re right about the cold … even in summer, it is chilly there without a sweater, and too cold to swim … for me, anyway … some try, and every year the undertow along this stretch of beach delivers a couple of them to the manitou….

LadyFi: Persephone will return at last, even to Sweden!

Randi: Waves and ice and sun are the same everywhere :-) It unites us. Sand blows onto the ice until it looks like a row of dunes, then it breaks to show such a dazzling purity underneath ... that must be a symbol of something....

Martin: It is always interesting, sometimes a bit eerie, when the word verification seems so relevant, like a message in a séance….

Nefertiti: J’aime ce bruit de la plage, les vagues déferlantes, les cris des mouettes ... merci pour les écouter avec moi. Une bonne journée à toi, aussi.

The Clyde never freezes over, a couple of local lochs did this year but that was very unusual. I've never heard of the Winter Guest! Must look out for it. A cold winter to us would be very mild by your standards, especially here on the west coast.

dyanna: Mulțumesc pentru commentariul tău atăt de poetic și adevărat. Sper că auzi musica primăverii :-)

Rebecca: It's actually not so bad this year :-) I've seen the lake look like this in mid-April, rather than late March....

Roxana: Yes … these Elementargeister are all around us, shaping, creating, destroying, and they are sometimes simply too large for us to see them, how often do we see the real world? … but I think of them carrying on with their work for millions of seasons before we came, millions of seasons after we will be gone (I find this comforting), the ice forming and breaking up, wind carrying sand to grind down the rocks....

Robinson Jeffers:

The Place for No Story

The coast hills at Sovranes Creek;
No trees, but dark scant pasture drawn thin
Over rock shaped like flame;
The old ocean at the land’s foot, the vast
Gray extension beyond the long white violence;
A herd of cows and the bull
Far distant, hardly apparent up the dark slope;
And the gray air haunted with hawks:
This place is the noblest thing I have ever seen. No imaginable
Human presence here could do anything
But dilute the lonely self-watchful passion.

Anne: I am glad to give you this moment at the shore :-)

James Owens said...

Ruma: Thank you for sharing this part of my world....

Sorlil: The Winter Guest is worth seeing, if you ever get the chance. A quiet, nearly perfect film, with nice views of the Scottish coast in winter, Emma Thompson back when she was really acting, directed by Alan Rickman long before he applied for a position at Hogwarts....

Spring, Spring! what tongue it would be able to testify, the magic that is already in the words and the heart beat can be full of sweet longing and blessed hope.

This wonderful light in your pictures, the melting of the ice, a return of life and warmth!

I embrace you
